Welcome Math 391 Students. Please read 1st two handouts linked below IMMEDIATELY.

To see just how important understanding Differential Equations is to engineering, watch what happened to the Tacoma Narrows Bridge in 1940. Whether the designers didn't think of the possibility of the wind exciting fundamental frequencies, or more sophisticated aerodynamics came into play, the bridge collapsed: original news video.

Blackboard is online and can be used to communicate with each other (like setting up study groups). One of the announcements there contains the link to the online class lecture notes.

Homework

In addition to the online homework described in the section info above, please also see 10th ed (still under review) (similar problems in 9th ed).

Review

Will be Monday, December 18, 2017, starting at 8:30pm, in our usual classroom NA 1/202. I'll order pizza since I know some students might be coming straight from a 6pm final exam ending right before that. I will use the tablet for writing, so those unable to attend can at least view that portion on the cloud.

Exams

Please have your CCNY ID card available during all exams.

Exam#2 will be the Monday after Thanksgiving, November 27, 2017, on covered sections between 3.4 and 5.2 inclusive. There will be a 15 minute Q&A before the exam, which will then occupy the rest of the class period.

Exam#1 will be Wednesday, October 11, 2017, on covered sections of ch. 1 & 2, plus 3.1-3.

Final exam will be Wednesday, December 20, 2017, 8:30-10:45pm, in MR3 (seat assignments will be posted on the doors at the time of the exam). (Please reserve the departmental final from Spring 2005 for practice at the end of the semester.)
