Major Descriptions
The mathematics department offers the following undergraduate degrees:
- Applied Mathematics (B.S.)
- Mathematics with a Pure Mathematics concentration (B.A. or B.S.)
- Mathematics with a Secondary Education concentration (B.A. or B.S.)
See the links above for major requirements.
Important remarks on double majoring and minors
At CCNY it is possible to have two academic plans (majors), which must award the same degree (B.A. or B.S. is all that the math department awards). No more than three courses may count for both majors; see the Bulletin. (There is also a more difficult possibility of obtaining two degrees consecutively, see the Dual Degrees section of the bulletin.)
You can major in one of the mathematics degrees above and minor in another field. You can only have one course overlap between the major and minor; again see the Bulletin.
Other mathematics degrees
Minor in Mathematics
The department also offers a Minor in Mathematics. For details see the bulletin entry.
Master's degree in Mathematics
We offer a Master's degree in Mathematics as well. There are two accelerated options for students considering pursuing an MS after graduation: We have an Accelerated Masters Degree (4+1 program), designed for students to be able to complete an MS in mathematics within a year after graduating with their undergraduate degree in mathematics. There is also a (seldomly used) four year B.A. and M.S. combined degree program. For details on this option see the bulletin entry.
