Abstract

The structure of integers which can be written as sums of squares has intricate connections to arithmetic, geometry and representation theory. I'll review some of the classical results going back to Femat, Gauss, Euler and others. Then I'll present some recent generalizations which are joint work Valdir Jose Pereira Jr.
