Knot theory, quantum topology, and categorification

Abstract
We will begin by discussing what mathematical knots are, and describe an elementary method of telling knots apart. We will then give a representation-theoretic interpretation of this tool. If time permits, we will discuss what categorification is, and how it relates to knot theory.
