Why is the Riemann hypothesis important?

Abstract
In the first part of the talk, we'll give an overview of the Riemann zeta function and its connection to the distribution of primes, with a focus on the explicit formula (a prototype of the "trace formula").
Then, we will discuss a "physical" reason that would explain the Riemann Hypothesis: the appearance of the Riemann zeta zeros in quantum chaos and in random matrix theory.
