Abstract
We will give a short introduction to the main concepts of Complex Dynamics. We will explain the statement of Thurston's characterization of rational maps, which is one of the most important result in the field, that relates topological and geometrical properties of branched covers of the 2-sphere. We will illustrate the ideas behind the proof including our own contributions to the field such as solving Pilgrims conjecture and obtaining a topological classification of canonical obstructions.
