Abstract
Fake projective planes are fascinating complex surfaces (real four-dimensional manifolds). While they were first discovered about 40 years ago, their explicit equations have only been computed recently. I will talk about the history of fake projective planes and some of the peculiar constructions and challenges associated with finding their explicit equations.
