Material to be covered (tentative)

Integers, groups, rings, isomorphisms, integral domains, properties of integers, fields, rational numbers, complex numbers, polynomials

Grading

    Homework: 10%
    Exam 1: 25%
    Exam 2: 25%
    Final Exam: 40%

Exam Information

    Exam 1: March 4
    Exam 2: April 20

Exams 1-2 will be administered during the class time. The final exam will be scheduled by the university during the exam period. No makeup exams are allowed. No calculators, books, notes or AI are permitted on any exam. You are required to bring a photo ID.

Homework

Problem sets will be posted on the course webpage on Brightspace approximately biweekly. Only two problems per set will be graded, but it is recommended that you attempt all problems in order to succeed at the course. The lowest homework score will be dropped. Late homework will not be accepted. Please do not have AI do your homework for you. If you use AI at all, please restrict yourself to asking for hints and please indicate that you have done so on your homework, stating clearly what your prompt was. The homework is to prepare you for the exam, where there is no AI.
