Quiz Answer Keys

Note: (The diagnostic quiz is exempt from this) For all quizzes, the maximum number of points is 10. Except for quizzes where I may decide to give a bonus problem, then the max. would be 11 points (Bonus problems are always worth 1 point)--the extra point will be extra credit. In general, there is no partial credit given on quizzes. You either get the right answer, or you don't. No in between. Partial credit will be offered on in-class exams and the final exam only.

Reviews for Tests

Review for Test 1

From HW, review problems:

  • Sec 1.3: 1 - 39 odd, 49 - 55 odd, 65 - 75 odd.
  • Sec 1.4: 29 - 32 all, 33 - 47 odd.
  • Sec 1.6: 1 - 43 odd, 53.
  • Sec 1.7: 1 - 29 odd, 33, 35.
  • Sec 1.8: 7, 9, 11, 13, 17.
  • Sec 3.1: 1 - 31 odd, 35.
  • Sec 3.2: 11 - 19 odd, 45, 47.

Make sure you know how to do the above problems, as well as you should know all the derivative rules I've told you up to this point, know what the derivative means and how to use it. Do you know how to determine at what point the slope of a randomly given curve has the same rate of change as some randomly given straight line? You should! Do you know how to tell if the slope of the tangent line to a curve is parallel to some given straight line? You should! Did you realize I just asked you EXACTLY the same question but using different words? If not, get to studying!

The following are problems you should review from past math finals:

  • Fall 2010: 1(b), 5, 10.
  • Spring 2010: 1(b), 5, 10.
  • Fall 2009: 1(a), 5, 10.
  • Spring 2009: 5, 10.

The above finals can be found on the math website.

The following finals are NOT on the math website. I sent them via email along with the solutions--courtesy of another professor.

  • Fall 2006: 3, 8.
  • Spring 2006: 4, 9.
  • Fall 2007: 3; 5(b),(c) ....Note, the answer to 5(a) is y(t) = -16t^2 + 32t + 48 (you will learn how to do this later in the semester).
  • Spring 2007: 1(a); 3; 5(b),(c)....here, y(t) = -16t^2 + 16t + 96. See the note above.
  • Spring 2008: 4, 9.
